Proving that nothing staves off the summer heat better than a cool pint of locally-brewed beer, more than 200 guests joined Hogs Back Brewery at its Summer Party on July 18. The event also raised £970 for the Challengers children’s charity. The Party was a chance for the award-winning Tongham brewer to celebrate another successful year, which has included the launch of a new beer, Hopping Hog IPA.
Along with new listings with pubs and supermarkets for its beers, the year has also seen the flagship Hogs Back TEA named the Best Bitter in the London and South East Area by CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale. With so much to raise a glass to, the Summer Party gave guests the chance to enjoy a pint or three in the glorious July sunshine, with nicely-chilled bottles of Hazy Hog cider and Hogstar lager also going down very well. The perfect accompaniment was freshly cooked Jumbo Pork and Ale sausages, provided by award-winning local butcher A Turner & Sons. Live music was provided by The Boileroom, with a great line up of Anthea & Andy Prince, Marcus Coyne and Jay Carter.
Challengers is Hogs Back Brewery’s nominated charity this year, providing play and leisure opportunities for disabled children and young people at centres across Surrey and Hampshire. Rupert Thompson, owner of Hogs Back Brewery, presented a cheque for £7,500 to Gail Bedding, one of the Parent Ambassadors for Challengers. Gail’s son, Fergus, attends Challengers. The party also raised over £970 from generous voluntary donations from guests, which also goes to the charity.

Hogs Back Brewery will opening its doors again on Saturday September 26, when its first Harvest Party will celebrate the revival of the Farnham White Bine Hop, which is being grown in the brewery’s own hop garden.
